MUAS - Munich

Flights

For Cal Poly students:

There are different options for flying from the US to Germany.

  • Flight from SLO to Munich: This option is more expensive and you are likely to have at least one layover.
  • Flight from LA or San Francisco to Munich: A flight from LA or San Francisco is cheaper than from SLO. There are a lot of airlines that you can choose from, for example United Airlines, British Airways, Lufthansa, etc.

You can fly from every city in the US of course, but prices can vary greatly so it’s important to compare them beforehand.

Flights back from Germany to the US: You don’t need a return flight to be able to enter Germany. You can either book a return flight when you are in Germany or book it in advance. Booking in advance will probably give yout the advantage of getting a cheaper flight.

For TUD students:

The cheapest option is to fly from Dublin to Munich. There are a few airlines that you can choose from for a flight from Dublin to Munich, for example AerLingus, RyanAir and Lufthansa. These flights usually don't have a layover and are relatively cheap.

Flights back from Germany to Dublin: You don’t need a return flight to be able to enter Germany. You can either book a return flight when you are in Germany or book it in advance, although booking in advance might give yout the advantage of getting a cheaper flight.

Arrival in Munich:

When you arrive in Munich, you have the following options:

  • Take the S-Bahn (S1 or S8) from Munich Airport to the city center (it’s about 8€)
  • Take a Taxi or an Uber (sometimes there are not that many Ubers available - this option is more expensive than taking the S-Bahn)
  • Ask your Welcome Ambassador if they can pick you up
  • Book a rental car (not really worth it because the public transportation system is very good in Munich)
